Skyworth c7000N, Skyworth c9000 and Skyworth c9700N

1. What are the differences in features between Skyworth c7000N, Skyworth c9000 and Skyworth c9700N standard digital set top boxes in Hathway?

2. Which model is the latest?

3. Which model gives the best picture quality?

4. Which model is the best?

5. Does any of these models have component output? I have LG flat screen CRT TV not HD.

Really appreciate your valuable answers.

Except changes in few hardware buttons, all the STBs have almost the same firmware and look and feel.

Latest one is Skyworth c9700N

All of them give the same picture quality

Difficult to say which is the best. Since there is no difference in terms of look and feel of the software, you can chose the one which looks good to your eyes :)

If I am not wrong, All of them have only composite out.

Simply say there is no technical changes or AQ,PQ changes in all STBs except their names.U can take any one of gthem. But I dont know about the hardware of these STBs.But I think there is no major complaints in any Hathway STBs.so you can choose any one of them.

Hi Bhaskar,

I am planning to take SD STB. Don't have HD TV yet. Will only buy HD Tv when HD gets more matured in India. Right now too early, only few channels.

I tried Siti Cable SD STB (had Siti connection earlier), but did not like their SD STB. Firstly their STB was bad, it was constantly freezing. Secondly, somehow I did not like composite output. Because the picture quality produced on Composite connection is inferior to Coaxial. Meaning the colors produced by composite are dull or washed out compared to coaxial.

Lived in United States for more than 14 years. Was a customer of Comcast, Cox, AT&T and Verizon. All the time, we used coaxial connections (See pic below) to connect Signal to SD STB and SD STB to Standard TV. Never used composite on SD STB. Even the cable guy in United States recommends and gives only coaxial connection.

Do not know the technology behind these connection types, but based on my experience ..... believe coaxial gives more balanced colors and/or saturated colors compared to composite. In composite, colors are less balanced/saturated.

Whereas Component and HDMI .... different thing. With HD STB, used only HDMI output for HD TV and Coaxial for Standard Flat screen TV.

So I believe Composite is the worst of all. Don't know why Indian Cable STBs only have Composite!

Sample SD Box in US .... pic below
(guess its somewhat old .... now everyone using HD STB)
See coaxial Cable In and Cable Out ports.

Though this STB does not have component, I am looking for something like this here in India so that I can connect using Coaxial. Somehow hate Composite!

I can Understand Ur problem Ramini But we cant do anything. Composite is the only Option for SD STB.Not only that, PQ quality also not that much good Comparing to HD STB. That is the reason we chooses HD STB , Of course we life HD channels.Dont compare India with US.We have to exist according to the situation.

Ok got it. But I was not comparing US to India. What I meant was when I was using Siti Cable SD STB, I compared picture quality with STB and without STB. Found analog color saturation (without STB) was much better compared to composite (with SD STB).

1. Is Hathway selling just the HD STB for Rs 2299? Read somewhere in a forum that HD STB is revised to Rs 2299 (excluding HD annual package). Is that true?

2. Does HD STB have component?

If Hathway is selling HD STB for Rs 2299 and if it has component, then I will definitely go for HD STB.
