Idea’s 4G Network will be available across 75 towns in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana

The country’s third largest mobile operator by revenues and subscriber base, the Aditya Birla group’s, Idea Cellular on Wednesday launched high-speed 4G services across 750 towns in the five southern states of Andhra Pradesh & Telengana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. With this Idea becomes the third operator, after Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India to have started 4G services ahead of the launch of such services by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocomm.

“Idea will rapidly expand 4G services in all Southern India metros and large towns including Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Mangalore and Coimbatore by March 2016,” the company said in a statement. By that time, the Mumbai-based telecom company also plans to launch 4G services in other key markets namely, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra & Goa, Punjab, Haryana, North East and Orissa, in a phased manner. By June 2016, Idea’s 4G footprint will cover 750 cities across 10 telecom circles, it said.
