The Karnataka government is mulling a limit or maximum cap of Rs 120 to be charged on movie tickets in multiplexes. The state has one of the highest ticket prices in the country currently.
The movement to bring a cap on ticket prices was led by Dayal Padmanabha, a Kannada film director and producer, who started a petition on change.org. He along with Kannada film chamber, has also written a letter to the Chief Minister seeking his intervention. He said, "Cut the rate of admission and increase the rate of occupancy. It will help all the movies not only Kannada."
The government is likely to fix Rs 120 as the maximum cap on any ticket. The decision is expected to be announced in the state budget, which is tentatively scheduled for March 18. As a result, multiplexes, which otherwise draw dismal crowds, could see a huge rise in footfalls, keeping the box office busy.
