Mumbai Foot Overbridge Collapse: At Least 5 Dead, 36 Injured in Accident Near CST Railway Station

Mumbai Bridge Collapse LIVE: At least five people, including two women, have been killed and 36 are injured AS a major portion of a foot overbridge near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station in Mumbai collapsed on Thursday evening.

All the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, a disaster management cell official said. An eyewitness said when the bridge collapsed, there was a red light at the nearby signal, and that is why the death toll was not more. Another eyewitness said the overbridge was being used despite repairs being carried out this morning.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “The collapse of a foot overbridge in Mumbai is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones in this accident. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis: “Bridge collapse is a saddening incident. We have ordered high-level enquiry. This bridge was constructed in 1980. This bridge was found ‘fit’ in the structural audit. We are finding out who is responsible for this audit. We will take strict action against those responsible. Ex-gratia of 5 lakh to the relative of deceased and 50,000 to injured. Preliminary enquiry report will come soon.”
