Reliance Jio has missed its release deadlines already, but the company is now formally ready to kickstart its services in the country before the end of 2015. A new report mentions that Reliance Jio's 4G networks will be operational in some cities of India starting December 28.
The company will officially commence the wider rollout by Q2 2016, the report said. This means that a large part of the Indian populace will have to wait until almost May or even June to check out Reliance Jio's 4G services. The launch will be concentrated towards Mumbai first, where initial testing was found to be very fruitful.
The report from Bank of America-Merrill Lynch (BofAML) suggests that VoLTE calls were functioning smoothly in Mumbai, even when inside buildings or while traveling. Speeds were said to be alternating between 60-70 Mbps when outside, but it came down to 18-30 Mbps during indoor usage.
The feasibility of the 4G networks outside Mumbai is yet to be confirmed, although Reliance Jio is said to be strengthening its infrastructure in preparation of the big launch.
