NEW DELHI: After launching the much-requested video calling feature in beta for Windows Phone and Android, WhatsApp has finally started rolling it out to everyone. The feature is hitting all the three major mobile operating systems - Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Since the rollout is phased, not everyone will receive the feature just yet.
As to how it works, to make a video call, users simply need to click on the calling button on the top right corner inside a chat windows and choose between 'Voice' and 'Video' calling options.

The feature also allows users to switch from front camera to rear camera during a call and 'mute the call' as well. In addition, users will get notifications in case they miss a call. To call back, they can simply tap on the same menu.

With the introduction of video calling, WhatsApp has caught up with some of the major rivals in the market such as Microsoft's Skype, Apple's FaceTime, Viber, Line, Google Duo and its own sibling Facebook Messenger. The company also adds that video calls made on WhatsApp for end-to-end encrypted.

It is also worth mentioning that in order to use the feature; both the parties should have the latest version of the WhatsApp that supports video calling.
WhatsApp currently has over a billion active users and claims that it witnesses over 42 billion messages sent, 1.6 billion photos shared, and 250 million video shared in each day.

WhatsApp recently rolled out another update for iOS and Android users, which brings the key features of Snapchat and Instagram Stories to the messaging app. The update allows WhatsApp users to draw and add emojis to an image or a video. Users can also choose any image or video in their smartphone's library and doodle on it with different brush sizes and font styles, something that has been there on Snapchat and Instagram Stories for a while.
