Uniform civil code in India is a law to replace the personal laws based on the scriptures and customs of each major religious community in the country with a common set governing every citizen. These laws are distinguished from public law and cover marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption and maintenance. Article 44 of the Directive Principles in India sets its implementation as duty of the State.

Currently in India we have different laws for different religion, if all citizens are equal as said by law, then all must be treated uniformly ???
UCC is there in all developed nations, including European Union, USA, Canada, and other nations.

I fell that state and religion must not be mixed if India truly is a secular.

What say guys can we have a discussion here

i may be anti-secular but problem of India is remaining as Secular.

America too call itself as democratic country but its has its own Uniform Civil codes. Hindus and Muslim can live and practice their own religion but no one is allowed to carry Jalsa or play loud music but in India our temples and mosques both are barking day night and making life hell.

So, i strongly believe in Uniform Civil code. If UCC says, everyone has to keep only wife, it should be followed by everyone and if UCC says marriages needs to be registered in Court, then everyone needs to follow that too.

Yes, I agree bro. Also its now a must, even after 67 years of independence we still do not have a Uniform Civil Code. If India is really secular then we must have a UCC. Also Article 44 of the Directive Principles sets its implementation as duty of the State.

And I would like to point our the validity of the secular word, I am not being anti secular, but secular was not there in the constitution when it was framed. It was added in 1975 by Indira Gandhi when the nation was in Emergency.

UCC should be made keeping all those in mind bro. But UCC needs to restrict some things as well.

It doesn't matter who lives in which state but like everyone enjoy common fundamental rights and get punished under common IPC section, so there must be definite set of rules which must be followed by all.

But some may go against it as they enjoy their culture with no such laws or codes

Before making any new law, government should replace those draconian laws which are in place and replace them with UCC and ensure that all Indian nationals follow these irrespective of race, caste, creed and most importantly religion. Also the central government needs to keep all these things in mind while drafting new civil code.

No one will understand since currently a Hindutva led government is at center and minority communities will not respect this
