Dubbed serials leaving Tamil soaps silent

The Tamil TV serial industry has decided to call a strike on Wednesday condemning the rising number of dubbed TV serials that are taking over television screens in the state. The strike was announced by the Federation of Small Screen Technicians, Tamil Nadu (FESST) on Sunday at a meeting that was called to condole the death of Tamil TV serial director Balaji Yadav who committed suicide, reportedly due to debts caused by unemployment.

"Dubbed serials have left many of the local artists and technicians out of work. Director Yadav was one of them. We must unite and fight back," said film director Samuthrakani addressing a gathering of about 300 leading names from the TV serial industry at the Prasad Lab Theatre in Vadapalani. They had come dressed in black to register protest against Yadav's suicide.

To battle the growing number of dubbed serials and to protect the interests of the local industry members, the Telugu Artistes Association and the Producers Council has formed a body called the Telugu Parirakshana Samithi (Save the Telugu Language), which has approached all local channels and even the chief minister with their problems. "When we met Nagarjuna to discuss this issue, he was surprised to hear about the number of dubbed serials being aired in a day. He has agreed to stand up for us too," says Suresh.

Veteran film director Dasari Narayana Rao too supports this ban. "The dubbed serials has left many local technicians and artistes jobless. Regional channels should encourage the producers to come up with local content," he says. Nagabala Suresh reveals they are planning to organise a rally on Ugadi Day. "We will also discuss this issue with local cable operators and if required, they will stop the telecast of these channels," he says.

I think its ok to have dubbed serials from 5 % going up to max 10 %....that too depending on the quality...more than that may not be useful....

The trend was started by Star network and others followed except sun tv.

So that means these big broadcasters just want to save money by dubbing serials.....Now it will be interesting to know whether they are doing this in other regional market also....or only in Tamil & Telugu....

Atleast in MH, my impression is that Star actually wanted to push viewers towards Star Plus, with their local channel just for namesake....But they didn't succeed...Now dubbed serials are only available on DD channel...

tamil, telugu and malayalam are airing the hindi dubbed serials but in kannada it is restricted to air dubbed content.

big broadcasters vijay tv started the trend, then raj tv aired the colors dubbed serials followed by polimer tv and now jaya tv. In short big and small broadcasters are airing only the hindi dubbed serials.

STAR is the major problem of Indian Television. They first start broadcasting South dubbed movies and every one started the trend and then with serials too.

Only STAR Jalsha and STAR Pravah having original contents because of ZEE's domination in this 2 market.

People are so fond of these hindi daily soaps that they can watch it in any given language
