Nestle decides to take Maggi off the shelves across country

Manufacturer Nestle India decided to take Maggi off the shelves late on Thursday after six states, including national capital Delhi, imposed a ban on the instant noodles following a controversy over food safety fears.

"The trust of our consumers and the safety of our products is our first priority. Unfortunately, recent developments and unfounded concerns about the product have led to an environment of confusion for the consumer, to such an extent that we have decided to withdraw the product off the shelves, despite the product being safe," Nestle said in a press release posted on its website late on Thursday night.

The decision came on the day five states -- Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand -- cracked the whip against the popular 'two-minute' noodles that is widely consumed across the country and contributes over a quarter to Nestle India’s revenues. At least 10 other states have sent samples of Maggi noodles for tests amid a widespread panic

Regulator calls 9 Maggi variants 'unsafe and hazardous', Nestle CEO defends brand

India’s food regulator ordered the withdrawal of Maggi noodles from the market on Friday amid growing food safety concerns, dealing a fresh blow to manufacturer Nestle India which is struggling to contain the spiralling crisis that has knocked about 10% off its share price.

The move came as the firm’s global chief flew down to India in a bid to douse fears about the popular snack that accounts for a huge chunk of Nestle India’s revenues, saying it was safe for consumption and that the Swiss company maintains the same quality standards all over the world.

Nestle India has been under fire over the past two weeks with at least seven states banning Maggi sales after finding dangerously high levels of lead and flavour-enhancer monosodium glutamate (MSG) in the snack that is hugely popular all the way from streetside stalls in coastal Kerala to the mountains of Ladakh.

Why are you so angry on them. We all know how govt labs work. I am sure those old school lab are at fault in testing Maggi. Their own testing equipment would be having lead else thereis no reason some states would have tested it negative.

Nestle itself has tested 12 million packets and not a single packet was having excess lead.

and to inform you that our own government is not able to control lead in drinking water which we all drink daily. So, if a maggi is getting manufactured in that water its our government which needs to be blamed than the Nestle India.
