In our country we are paying huge taxes for petroleum products and it is happening for a long time and it has nothing to do with Modi (just to be clear on the topic)

Of course it is in fact MP Govt. additionally increased some percentage of amount in Petrol and Diesel to recover money of what they paid to affected farmers during rain.

So MP people are paying more on Petrol and Diesel in fact MP in top 2 - 3 states where people pay more tax on Petrol and Diesel.

These scheme of revenue started from Bajpai Govt. tat prices will always remain same whenever Crude oil price increase all duty goes down no profit for Govt. whenever Crude oil price decrease duty goes up revenue for Govt. and people keep paying the same amount.

After UPA everything messed up because at 1 end they keep earning from Petrol and Diesel but at other hand they wasted all.

But i feel that high price of Petrol is more beneficial to the manufacturers like Reliance.

The landed cost of petrol will be some where 25 rupees. The rest are all taxes. Probably Devesh bro can share some light (internal)

But during UPA govt the crude oil barrel was high and so was petrol and diesel price but now the prices of those crude oil barrel are low and still the petrol and diesel prices are high

Now both Diesel and Petrol prices are de-regulated and prices keep changing every fortnight based on International crude prices

That is because they increased the duty to offset the rising fiscal deficit and hope the prices will remain constant incase the crude prices head north
