Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday termed the regional transport offices (RTOs) as the most corrupt and said that they indulge in loots bigger than those by dacoits of Chambal. He also said that RTO officials have provoked ministers in states to oppose the Road Transport and Safety Bill that his ministry has drafted.
Gadkari, who had publicly announced to "close the shop" of RTOs and the practice of "Lakshmi Darshan" (slang for bribe) at a public function in Mumbai in August, once again reiterated that the enactment of the proposed Road Transport and Safety Bill will reform the entire sector and weed out corruption in the RTOs.
