They had even shut Zee news UP/UK which they are relaunching now.
Further Zee news website already has Zee News Malayalam & Zee News Tamil tabs which is an indication of what's in store.

For malayalam GEC they are exploring outright buying of an existing channel. Zee has no Gujrati Or Punjabi GEC now still they have entered news business. News business and GEC has no link. Esp in Zee as both are run under different companies. News channels under Zee media & Other under Zee entertainment enterprise

I think Sony will try to buy any popular existing south channels instead of launching a separate channel to expand their regional portfolio. Btw, it is known to all that Sony will soon enter the regional market. Already they announce to launch minimum one regional channel by the end of 2017.
