Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) will launch more regional channels to strengthen its existing portfolio and also look to enter the Kerala market.

The company has a presence in the Telugu, Tamil and Kannada markets.

The plan is to launch a Malayalam general entertainment channel. Will ZEEL enter into new regional markets, launch flagship channels and get into new genres?

“I think, the last point is definitely the low hanging fruit as there are several genres within the regional market that we need to still complete our portfolio with, especially down south and also there are some markets where we are still not present in, like Kerala. The priority of each will be in that order and the timing is something that we would like to keep it a bit confidential,” ZEEL managing director and CEO Punit Goenka told media analysts.

They had planned to acquire a channel but that dosent seem to be working.

They actually lost the golden opportunity when the deal with Asianet was stuck up which was later cracked by Star.

In the kerala Market dominated by Star's Asainet channels(4 Channels) & Sun networks Surya Channels (5 channels) which also has competition of Mazhavil Manorama, Flowers, Kairali etc. It will be very difficult to make a mark in the Kerala Market.

Yep too late. They also. Need to focus more on other regional channels viz Gujrati, Punjabi, Asamees where it has no presence.

Acquisition of existing channel is the only way to enter in Kerala market.
Acquisition is possible only if sm1 wants to sell. Asianet & Surya is out of question. Only option is Mazhavil Manorama or Flowers.
Mazhavil Manorama is of a bigger media group which won't be keen in selling.
Flowers could be an option but it's a relatively new channel and it hasn't done much in terms of TRP and BARC ratings.

Flowers has backing of gulf money hence that too wont work unless the investors think the other way. In terms of TRP Flowers has good numbers in kerala market.

Ohh is it.. But in BARC ratings its always Asianet which tops followed by Mazhavil Manorama, Surya, Asianet Movies & Surya Movies. Flowers has hardly featured twice or thrice in top 3 channels list

I guess that Zee will launch a purely new channel, Zee Malayalam instead of acquiring any existing channels like Zee Tamil, Zee telugu, Zee Kannada, Zee Bangla etc.
