The Mini Convertible, which has a soft top that closes and opens in 18 seconds, is available at dealerships across India as a completely built-up unit (CBU), BMW said.
The company has dealerships in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It is opening a dealership in Chennai as the demand is growing in India, said a top company official.
Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India, said that the new model is “for those Mini fans who like the thrill of open air driving. I am sure the introduction of this variant will increase sales in India. We are looking at adding a dealership in one more city by the end of this year.”
The car was introduced in India in January 2012 and since then, the company has been selling 300 to 400 a year in India. Last year, sales were down by 3 per cent and the company sold 340 units.
In India, BMW has the entire Mini portfolio which now comprises five variants. The latest variant is available in ‘pepper white’ and ‘volcanic orange’ as non-metallic paintwork and in 11 metallic colours.
The car is for long drives and comes with a powerful engine. It achieves 0 to 100 speed in 7.1 seconds and has a boot that is 25 per cent more specious than the provides model. Its top speed is 233 km.
