21st Century Fox’s cable network programming expenses during the quarter ended31 March jumped 19 per cent owing to increased rights fees related to the broadcast of the ICC Cricket World Cup on Star Sports and increased programming costs at FXX led by ‘The Simpsons’. The company’s international affiliate revenue increased 2 per cent, driven by strong local currency growth at Fox International Channels (FIC) and Star channels. This was partially offset by a 13 per cent adverse impact from the strengthened US dollar. International advertising revenue from cable networks increased 24 per cent, thanks to strong local currency growth at Star, fuelled by the broadcast of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Cable network and local currency growth at the FIC channels was partially offset by a negative 5 per cent impact from foreign exchange rate fluctuations.
