An Abu Dhabi court has come down heavily on a shop owner for selling unauthorised subscription services and set-top boxes (STBs) from Indian direct-to-home (DTH) operator Dish TV. Based on evidence and applicable laws, the court has ordered the closure of the shop for one year, deportation of the shop manager, and imposed a fine of Dirham 200,000. The judgment is subject to an appeal within 14 days. The order came on a case filed by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which raided the shop following a complaint filed by the region’s leading cable network OSN. Following the raid, the CID officials presented the case before the Abu Dhabi court for illegal provision of TV content, backed with evidence seized during the raid, including Dish TV receivers and a computer.
