The recommended (base) price of Rs 11,485 crore for the 700 Mhz spectrum has not been well received by telecom companies. However, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman, RS Sharma says recommendations have been made after rigorous stimulation and studies. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Sharma says the final decision will be taken up by the Department of Telecommunication (DoT).
Main aim is to make maximum commercial spectrum available to the telecom operators, he says. On the demand for more band in the 800 MHz spectrum, Sharma says TRAI has given recommendations for reserve price for entire spectrum and not specific bands. On differential pricing, Sharma says TRAI is still working on it.
