Bharti Airtel Ltd. is evaluating Circuit Switched Fall Back (CSFB) technology to ensure voice capability in its 4G services. The sources close to the developments have confirmed the news to Information Week India.

Through CSFB option, the company would be able to offer voice to its LTE subscribers through its 3G and even 2G network. This is particularly significant since 4G networks are largely used for carrying out data services. With CSFB, the network can transfers the users to 3G or 2G network during voice or video calls. Bharti has launched 4G services in three locations, Kolkata, Pune and Bengaluru, in India.

The move will also give Bharti, a competitive edge over its arch rival, Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) which has an all India BWA spectrum and expects to launch 4G services in the coming year. Reliance is exploring Voice-Over-LTE technology to offer the voice capability in its 4G network
