Alcatel Lucent, Samsung and Ericsson have got a major part of the Reliance Jio Infocomm’s deal, according to well-placed industry sources.
“While Alcatel Lucent has got the GPON, FTTx and metro DWDM part while Samsung has procured the radio access and packet core network part. Ericsson, on the other hand, has procured the managed services part,” says a reliable industry source on condition of anonymity. It is as yet unclear how big the deals are and the geographies they are meant for.
Samsung is the newest player in the telecom equipment market and is already working with Reliance for network part for Delhi and Mumbai cities. The Korean Chaebol is also believed to have signed the devices deal with Reliance Jio, which is likely to substantially bring down the prices of LTE devices. Ericsson on the other hand is also working with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio for WiFi hotspots. Post the acquisition of BelAir, Ericsson has been focusing on the WiFi segment and which gave the company access to strong carrier-grade WiFi portfolio, technological expertise, IPR, and established customer contracts and relationships. That Alcatel Lucent is part of the deal is no surprise. The European equipment manufacturer has been actively helping the company in the trial process. Alcalu was also working with Reliance Jio’s previous avatar, Reliance Infocomm.
