All television channels have been given a deadline of 25 August to provide one set of professional IRD for each TV channel which can give SD-SDI output (in case the channels are HD then HD-SDI output) along with one spare IRD per bouquet to the electronic media monitoring cell (EMMC).

Additionally, the pay TV broadcaster / service provider should provide viewing card (VC) with matching CAM module for interface with demodulators to decrypt and demodulate the channels over lP.

This reminder by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry is in furtherance of the earlier letter of 22 July.

The Ministry informed all TV channels that any failure to provide the module to EMMC within the time schedule will be viewed seriously.

Humm. So, I&B is serious in monitoring content of each and every channel.

So we can expect action on non objectionable things faster than before.

This is one such ministry which suddenly has got big boost since Modi government has taken charge.

How monitoring contents are related with EMMC ?

Are you asking or disagreeing to mine comments ? EMMC comes under Information and Broadcasting Ministry only.

Government of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting established Electronic Media Monitoring Centre with the aim to have effective monitoring of content of various TV channels beaming over Indian Territory for any violation of:

  • Programme Code
  • Advertisement Code
  • Various provisions of Cable Television Networks Regulation Act
  • Any other law relevant to the content of Satellite TV Channel
Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) is a subordinate office under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Youngest among the Media Units, it was set up on 9th June, 2008. The Centre has been entrusted with the work of monitoring the contents of (a) All TV channels up linking and down linking in India to check the violation of Programme and Advertisement Codes enshrined in Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act 1995 and Rules framed there under, (b) Private FM Radio Channels and (c) Any other such work relating to monitoring of contents of broadcasting sector assigned by the Government from time to time. At present, EMMC records around 300 TV channels and monitors about 210 channels on a 24x7 basis.

Yeah. We keep hearing news of channels going off air for one day. Its all because of EMMC only.

Also, every channel have their own monitering team which scans through their own channel and take action against objectionable content

e.g adult content, voilence, No smoking message etc. . .

If those are complete nude then a complaint is required.

Complete nudity isn't allowed in any time slot. They have to cut or blur those scenes.
