Top Indian telcos Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular are looking to new revenue streams in the government's smart cities initiative, home automation, healthcare and cloud and energy management services as voice and data business for retail customers come under pressure.
These telcos’ sense that the enterprise market is service oriented and highly competitive, with high level of service commitments and robust infrastructure with backup and well defined turnaround time (TAT). The criticality of operations is too high to get influenced with pricing alone, a huge risk in the dominant retail business recently exposed by Reliance Jio’s price crashing entry into the field.
Enterprises are now looking towards telcos who can offer them end-to-end solutions rather than plain vanilla connectivity, analysts said. These operators have to compete against likes of Tata Communications, which is a dominant player in the market.
