The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday launched a campaign to remove illegal mobile towers.
The BMC removed two illegal towers from Bawadiakalan area of Bhopal. "The corporation removed two towers installed at the residence of Jishan Ali," Amit Gajbhiye, city planner said.
One month ago, the corporation had issued notice to Ali and two mobile companies stating that the towers were illegal. They should be removed as soon as possible, failing which the corporation would remove the same, he said.
The issue of illegal mobile towers was debated at the recent BMC council meeting. Chairperson Kailash Mishra had formed a four-member committee to look into the issue of illegal towers in the city.
The BJP had proposed to legalize the mobile towers by paying Rs one lakh, which was opposed by the Congress corporators who are in majority in the council . They said, "it is unethical".
Following this, the corporation launched the campaign of removing illegal mobile towers. The BMC says there are over 400 illegal mobile towers in the city.
