Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, will meet representatives of automobile companies on January 14 to understand their concerns following the government’s move to directly implement the Bharat Stage (BS)-VI emission norms by April 2020 skipping BS-V standards.
The automobile sector representatives had voiced their apprehensions over an early deadline to implement clean fuel technology citing financial burden and inability to switch to BS-VI norms due to technical complexities.
In a move to fight pollution, Mr. Gadkari had announced on Wednesday that government would implement the BS-VI emission norms from April 2020 throughout the country, advancing the earlier deadline by a year and skipping the BS-V norms. BS-VI is the Indian equivalent of the Euro-VI norms. At present, BS-IV norms are being followed in over 30 cities while the rest of the country followed BS-III norms.
“The automobile sector is worried about the integration of two technologies following the decision to skip BS-V norms.
