In Kochi, Cable TV subscribers are in for a tough time with operators planning to hike the subscription charges by at least 25 per cent. The charges are set to go up with effect from April 1, according to the Cable TV Operators Association (COA).
The association comprises of operators other than Asianet Satellite Communication. “The cable TV industry came into existence over two decades ago. With the advent of pay channels, an increase in the subscription charges was inevitable,” said K Govindan, General Secretary, COA. “Like ther sectors, cable TV operators are also suffering from rise in prices. We find it difficult to stay afloat with the current subscription charges,” added Praveen Mohan, president, COA.
With nearly all the Malayalam channels turning into pay channels, the cable TV operators felt it imperative to raise the subscription charges, the COA asserted. Currently, Kerala is the only state with considerably low monthly subscription charges for cable TV channels.
