Continuing with its downward trend, the week 49 of opportunity to see (OTS) collated by Chrome Media Analytics and Media didn’t see much gain.
With 0.8 per cent growth, Infotainment channels across India led the pack of gainers for the week. Discovery with 85.5 per cent OTS continued its reign in the genre.
It was followed by Music in the Hindi speaking markets (HSM) with 0.7 per cent jump, Kids across Indiawith 0.6 per cent and Hindi Movies in HSM with 0.5 per cent hike. In their respective genres, the channels which topped were MTV with 89.8 per cent OTS, Cartoon Network with 83.6 per cent OTS and Maxwith 95.9 per cent OTS.

In a move that was bound to give birth to a whole new module of distribution, Star India, after deciding to enter only into Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) deals, in late October this year, decided to give incentives to the multi system operators (MSOs) for carrying its channels.

If numbers are to be believed, the OTS of channels from the network have seen a setback after the announcement of RIO. There has been a certain percentage difference between the pre and the post RIO era. And suffering the most are the niche and sports channels from the network’s stable.

Sports channel s across India saw a drop of 9.5 per cent OTS as it went down from 54.2 per cent to 49.08 per cent. Channels impacted by this drop are Star Sports 1, 2, 3 & 4. Similarly, English entertainment and movie channels too have felt the heat. With 27.7 per cent OTS drop and 11.7 per cent OTS loss, channels like Star Movies and Star Movies Action and Star World and Fox Crime are losing out in their respective genres.

To fix the damage done, the network will have to work hand-in-hand with the MSOs and advertise as much as possible to let consumers want to avail all its channels.

These are two different news stories, one is related to general Chrome weekly data & other is related to Star's performance after RIO deals measured by Chrome.

So it's clear that RIO is affecting Star's viewership but will it affect subscriptions & earnings in a positive way.....?
Or Star channels are doomed barring few popular one....?

I think that's why there are so many Star TV ads running......

RIO Deals kicked STAR INDIA back and no doubt that they're badly affected from their own stupid decision as record saying that their Sports channels are struggling because of their cheap tactics.

When ala carte scheme comes to play then people think how get rid from it if they want to see sports they will subscribe SS 1 only or SS 3 only, if ISL then SS 2 or SS 3 or STAR GOLD or STAR Jalsha Movies or Asianet Movies or Suvarna Plus, no one will subscribe to their correspondent channel for the same thing.

If channel is not reaching to enough household then ultimately it will hurt them form Ad revenues too because every marketing company ensure their product in max. reach.
