CHENNAI: The best way to learn robotics, they say, is to start making robots. And a group of IIT-Madras graduates are taking this motto to other college campuses with their start-up Lema Labs.
Started with seed money from IIT-M, Lema Labs trains students during weekends. "We found that many students are interested in robotics, but they do not have a proper support system. We decided to guide them," said Kedar Kulkarni, a team member who quit a job in California.
The company started with a one-day programme on robotics, and realised the potential for a bigger module. With guidance from professors at IIT and experts from the industry, Lema Labs developed Kaizen robotics program, a two-year curriculum to teach students on emerging technologies.
The curriculum, which has six-month courses each covering basic robotics to computer vision, controls theory and machine learning. Trainers go to colleges every weekend to take nine-hour classes that deal with theory and hands-on training.
