The Alienware 18 is obviously not built for the average laptop user, or even for someone who wants a nice, powerful laptop. Just scroll down to the section where Dell notes that no productivity software is included for proof. It’s meant for gaming, and high-resolution gaming at that. Even the entry-level system comes with dual NvidiaGTX 970M with 6GB of GDDR5 in an SLI setup. You can upgrade, too, to dual 980Ms with 8GB each.
That’s overkill for the system’s 18.4-inch WLED display and its 1080p native resolution. If you want to do any 4K gaming on the Alienware 18, you’ll need to hook up an external display. Fortunately, there’s both an HDMI port and a mini DisplayPort, and the overclocked (to a max of 4.1GHz) Intel Core i7-4910MQ processor is more than capable of handling the workload. You can choose to drop in a 4940MX (4.4GHz) if you have any concerns about it coming up short
