Nearly 430 cases of dengue were confirmed in the first five days of September, taking the total number of patients to over 1,200 this year. Of these, around 780 patients were diagnosed in August alone.

Against 1,259 cases reported this year, last year saw only 995 cases being reported. Also, last year, only 11 patients were diagnosed in August and 87 patients tested positive in September.

Considering the sharp rise in cases, Central government hospitals in the capital too are opening dedicated dengue wards apart from Delhi government hospitals. On Monday, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital medical superintendent Dr A K Gadpayle confirmed that the hospital would be starting a 35-bed dengue ward.
