Dish TV India Ltd, the direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television distributor run by Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, said on Thursday that net loss narrowed to Rs.43.6 crore in the quarter ended 31 March from Rs.49 crore in the year-ago period.
Revenue rose 7.6% to Rs.555.4 crore from Rs.516.44 crore a year earlier.
The DTH provider also added 0.2 million net subscribers in the quarter, taking its customer base to 10.7 million.
“Fiscal 2013 saw most players in the Indian DTH industry evolve to the next level. Under Dish TV’s leadership, the industry pulled off a significant increase in the acquisition price over the last several months thereby reducing the effective cash burn per subscriber. While the resultant decline in industry gross additions is marginal, it is expected to be well compensated by quality of subscribers,” managing director Jawahar Goel said in a statement.
The subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) was lower at Rs.1,996 compared with Rs.2,201 in the immediately preceding quarter. Dish TV’s average revenue per user for the three months was Rs.157, compared with Rs.160 in the December quarter.
