Dish TV subscribers will find a ticker running on their TV screens when they tune in tomorrow morning. The Direct-To-Home (DTH) player begins a campaign, starting 15 November, called ‘On Request Channels.’ The move, it says, is to give TV consumers a freedom of choice.

With this, Dish TV says it aims to provide consumers a flexible package and savings by offering channels ‘on request only basis’.

Currently, the DTH provider has seven different packages for subscribers in north India and eight different packages for south Indian subscribers with a combination of different channels.

Now, Dish TV proposes to classify most channels as ‘On Request Channels.' The subscribers will have several weeks to decide and place their request.

Once a subscriber places a request to unsubscribe to a particular channel or channels, he/she will stop receiving them from the cut-off date, Dish TV states. These subscribers will be given 100 bonus points (worth Rs 100) for each unrequested channel. The points can be used to purchase movies-on-demand and selected a la carte channels of their choice.

Direct-to-Home operator Dish TV has come out with a new initiative "request only basis", in which it will provide flexibility to customers to weed out the channels which they do not want to watch from their bouquet.

"Under the scheme, we are providing flexibility to the customers to remove the channels from their bouquet, which they do not wish to watch," Dish TV India Chief Executive R C Venkateish told PTI.

He further said that under the scheme which would be applicable on the existing packages, the DTH operators would select some channels and inform its viewers by running scrolls that these channels are on "request only basis".

"The viewers would have to send his choice to Dish TV through SMS and within a period of six weeks and that channel would be removed from his package," Venkateish said.

Moreover, the Zee Group firm would add 100 bonus points, which are worth Rs 100, in the account of its customers, for the channels which they have removed, he added.

"In return, the customer can avail any value-added service from its package and even movie on demand or some ala-carte channel," Venkateish said, adding that the validity of these bonus points would be more than two years.

Right now, Dish TV is picking 6 to 9 channels every bouquet and till the end of December this year would add 35 channels and another 35 channels by March 2014.

As per above, we have to request for unsubscribe a channel if we don't want that channel. That is good.

Now the Big Question is whether we need to call / SMS for the channels we need or remove???

For example, I dont want any channels to remove from my pack. So, do I need to SMS one by one for all the channels to be active in my pack or just leave it as it is?

I think it would better be to email them with complete list.

This seems to be a new and innovative concept. But point system needs to be understood well before opting.

I send the e-mail today.

I asked them to keep all the channels in my pack and not to remove any channels under ORC service.

Now, waiting for their confirmation.

I send again an email to dish tv customer care yesterday.

Request them to add the all FREE A-LA-CARTE channels to my pack.

Finally, all these channels back to my pack except Ten Golf today.
