Samsung may collect and your device may capture voice commands and associated texts so that we can provide you with Voice Recognition features and evaluate and improve the features. Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition.

The Xbox One will always be listening to you, in your own home (update)

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson responded to our inquiry with the following statement.

The new Kinect is listening for a specific cue, like ‘Xbox on.’ We know our customers want and expect strong privacy protections to be built into our products, devices and services, and for companies to be responsible stewards of their data. Microsoft has more than ten years of experience making privacy a top priority. Kinect for Xbox 360 was designed and built with strong privacy protections in place and the new Kinect will continue this commitment.

Update 2: Microsoft CVP Phil Harrison told Eurogamer that the company has no plans to spy on you:

We aren't using Kinect to snoop on anybody at all. We listen for the word 'Xbox on' and then switch on the machine, but we don't transmit personal data in any way, shape or form that could be personally identifiable to you, unless you explicitly opt into that.

There were reports last year suggesting that some companies have demonstrated new STBs with built-in camera & mic to watch / listen to viewers so that ad networks could improve based on viewers' responses......

Last year, one user proved that Samsung is sending data about their Smart TV usage along with user data / file names, over internet................

So it seems all these smart devices have capabilities to monitor your activities & can be used easily for snooping.............

Even many apps keep asking for many unwanted permissions like mic / camera use & the data gathered from this may be used for selling personal info or snooping.............

yes, it is better to disconnect the data lines when not in use.
Actually this is the reason I wanted a smartphone which would give some control over apps.......Now most of the apps demand for many unwanted or unrelated permissions & there is no control over it..........

From all this, it looks like smart gadgets are like a unfamiliar person continuously living with us.......

It has always been like this. As long as the app is from a trustworthy source, I don't think there's any need for worry. Just beware of apps that are not reliable.
