The new functionality will offer users more personalized search suggestions as they type, similar to the way Google automatically offerssearch suggestions. It even lets you see popular quotes and phrases by users related to that post, and provides an “aggregate overview of sentiment” about a particular topic. It is initially only available in US English. “You also can pull-to-refresh and see the latest publicposts”, Stocky said.
So if you found yourself completely perplexed by “pizza rat” or “pirate cat” or, you know, “Hillary Clinton Benghazi hearing”, you should be able to hop into Facebook and look up what your friends and others are saying about it.
The expansion of Facebook Search is a challenge to Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL)-owned Google and Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) for control of real-time news search.
Facebook transformed the search bar normally used to find other Facebook users into a tool for finding what those users were saying, about a year ago. Your friends will be among the search results, too, making it easy to find the articles people are talking about. You will need to check your privacy settings.
All Search results will appear in an organized manner. Firstly, it will show all authentic news sources relevant to the query. Next in line will be the friend’s activities like commenting, sharing or liking posts related to the topic searched. Lastly, it will show what strangers have shared through their post about the same topic. To sum up, everything shared by anyone throughout this forum, associated with the search, will pop up in the results. However, the strangers' post will only appear if they have allowed their posts to be viewed by public.
Earlier any activity on the social network like sharing posts, liking them or commenting on them were not an issue, as only the people in friends list were able to view them. However, it will not be like this from now onward, as anybody can find out what is the user's perception about a certain topic or event. For instance, the user thinks "Justin Trudeau" should not have been elected as Canada's prime minister, and he posted his sentiments through a picture or a status. Now such post shared by the user on the social network could start unwanted discussion, or possibly an outrage throughout the social network, as apparently many may not agree with this. However, some may be comfortable with their perception being viewed or discussed by unknown people on the network as well, but it is believed an unsettling idea for many users. Now users would be more conscious about the content they share on the social platform. In other words, their freedom on the social network looks taken away.
