Ford is debuting its newest car at the world’s largest mobile phone showcase, highlighting how the autmobile and IT worlds are colliding.
The car company will unveil a revamped version of one of its Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) packed with new “connectivity” technology – expected to be the mid-range Kuga – at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month.
It will be the fifth time the company has exhibited at the event, showing the importance to the motor industry of so-called connected cars that give drivers the same online access at the wheel as they have on their laptop or through their smartphone.

Over the past few year cars have featured heavily at technology shows; dominating the agenda at the giant Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last month, for example.
However, Ford’s launch – which will be accompanied by a keynote address from chief executive Mark Fields - is thought to be the first mainstream, mass production model to be revealed at such an event.
