Google's video calling app Duo is already number 1 in both iPhone's iOS app store and the Android Play store. The app became available on August 15, initially in limited countries but then soon rolled out across the world.
Unlike Google's existing video calling app Hangouts, the Duo uses a phone-number based approach to identify and register users. This is similar to how WhatsApp operates and makes it easier for people to connect with their friends and family members using the app.
With the Duo, Google's focus is on simplicity. "Today, we're releasing Google Duo - a simple 1-to-1 video calling app available for Android and iOS. Duo takes the complexity out of video calling, so that you can be together in the moment wherever you are," a Google spokesperson had said on August 15.
