The human resource development ministry on Wednesday said that telecast of the education channel Gyandarshan channel would resume from first week of September once the requisite approval from ministries of information and broadcasting and communication comes.

The telecast of Gyandarshan had stopped because the ministry of space had changed the satellite signal of the channel from INSAT 3C to G-SAT 10. "As the satellite is changed the angle of emitting dish has to be changed which requires clearance from the ministry of I&B and ministry of communication and information technology," the ministry said in response to a story published in Hindustan Times on August 6 titled IGNOU distances itself from online courses.

The ministry also said that as Gyandarshan telecast was not taking place, teleconferencing programme was also temporarily disrupted. "Once the Gyandarshan programmes become operative, the teleconference would be restored expectedly in the first week of September," the ministry said. It also added that the university was in the process of developing a dedicated online learning programme called e-gyankosh.
