The recently launched Pokémon GO game has created quite the buzz, and is currently the talk of the town despite having launched in only a few countries. It is not only changing how people are playing mobile games, but its continuing popularity could also drive smartphone companies to insert a large battery, making smartphones thicker. “As Pokémon GO continues to gain steam, smartphone manufacturers will turn out devices that have features aimed specifically at this next generation of smartphone users — mobile phone users that are actually mobile,” Slashgear.com reported on Saturday.

Pokémon GO is not going to drive innovation in battery power storage all on its own. ”What will drive the need for better batteries is the continued success of Pokémon GO and resulting apps and games, the report noted. We will also likely see the return of the removable, replaceable battery as a big selling point — again, if Pokémon GO lasts, the report added.
