ICT solutions major Huawei is planning to strengthen its mobile broadband business in India by winning more 3G and 4G LTE deals and offering better customer experience.
The Chinese telecom equipment makers' strategy revolves around offering better customer experience by providing network, devices and cloud solutions.
"We are already a leader in 3G network business. We will strengthen our mobile broadband presence by offering end-to-end solutions," said A Sethuraman, executive director, Huawei Technologies India, in an interview.
Huawei India recently won a deal from Bharti Airtel to roll out TD-LTE 4G services in Karnataka. This is the first LTE deal in India for Huawei.
Telecom equipment majors like ZTE (Airtel - Kolkata), Nokia Siemens Networks (Airtel "“ Maharashtra) and Ericsson (Augere) have already won LTE deals. Out of this, Ericsson's Augere deal is facing trouble as Augere is looking at exiting from India.
Despite its leadership in global markets, Alcatel-Lucent is yet to win 4G contracts in India.
Industry source said Ericsson is set to sign a deal with Ericsson for launching 4G LTE services in Chandigarh.
Bharti Airtel is also in the process of identifying infrastructure vendors for Mumbai and Delhi circles which it acquired from Qualcomm.
Huawei is also waiting for 4G deal from Reliance Industries which has license for 22 circles.
Recently, Ericsson President and CEO Hans Vestberg claimed that Ericsson is the clear LTE leader and recent wins include contracts with e-access in Japan, Open Mobile in Latin America, and Augere in India.
According to GSA, 2012, Huawei launched 31 of the 64 commercial LTE networks launched globally, more than any other company.
Success of Huawei's mobile broadband business revolves around its devices strategy. Huawei Devices aims to be amongst the top 3 handsets brands by 2016. Huawei competes with Apple, Samsung, Nokia and Research In Motion in the smartphone space. It will be a tough task to gain top 3 position in the next 4 years though Huawei is launching several innovative products.
Huawei says innovation will assist the company to strengthen its position.
Recently, Huawei announced the world's first execution of an LTE Category 4 field trial on a commercial LTE network in Europe. The field trial demonstrated excellent performance with download data rates of up to 150Mbps.
The trial was based on an LTE Category 4 device and one commercial LTE network deployed by Huawei in Europe.
This kind of innovation is expected to assist Huawei to ensure offering better consumer experience.
The LTE device made use of the industry's first Hisilicon LTE multi-mode chipset to support LTE R9. The trial is an LTE industry milestone as it helps meet the requirements of fast data traffic growth in an era of mobile broadband and brings an unparalleled service experience to end users.
Southeast Asia has seen a strong commitment to 4G, with commercial networks up and running in Malaysia (likely WIMAX over LTE), Singapore, and the Philippines.
India is an important market for Huawei for its mobile broadband business. Asia Pacific will account for over 68 percent of LTE revenue by 2015, according to Mind Commerce.
Mind Commerce said LTE revenues have reached over $ 2.1 billion in 2011, up from $ 0.6 billion in 2010. More than 80 percent of the revenue will potentially accrue to major vendors such as Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei.
