ICC WT20 tickets to go on sale from Wednesday

The phase one of tickets sale for the ICC World Twenty20 will go live on Wednesday, 24th February 2016. BCCI has appointed BookMyShow as the ticketing agency for the event. This would encompass all matches being played, including the women’s fixtures.

Phase one of the ticket sale will see tickets go on sale for the matches (excluding India matches and the semi finals and final of the men’s and women’s events) to be played at the following venues –Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata and Mohali. The online sale of tickets as indicated above will commence at 12:00 noon on 24th February 2016.

The eagerly anticipated India-Pakistan match of the T20 WC 2016 has run into another controversy after Virbhadra Singh, chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday (March 1) expressed his inability to provide security for the match, leaving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a fix with just a week to go for the start of the multi-nation event.
The marquee clash of Group 2 is scheduled to be played in the hill-town of Dharamsala on March 19 but its fate hangs in the balance after Virbhadra Singh wrote to the Indian home ministry stating that the state government would not be able to provide adequate security for the match.
Reacting to Mr. Singh's claims, Anurag Thakur, the BCCI secretary, hit back angrily stating that petty politics was being resorted to at a time when the country's image was at stake. "The venues of the World Cup matches were decided one year ago, the allotment of matches was decided six months ago. People all over have made bookings and it is not fair to give such statements at the last minute," he said.
"The Congress-led state government is clearly playing politics. Hundreds of Pakistani athletes were given security during the South Asian Games in Assam, why can't the Himachal government do the same? By claiming that you cannot provide security, you are only giving credence to Pakistani claims that there is a security threat to their team in India. It's about the country's image, you cannot play politics over it," he added.
On Monday, the Himachal Pradesh Congress, a political rival of the Thakur-represented Bhartiya Janata Party, had asked the BCCI to either cancel the proposed match or shift the venue. Only last week, did the Pakistan team receive clearance from their government to travel to India, ending a period of uncertainty surrounding their participation in the tournament.
Pakistan are not scheuled to play any matches in the state of Maharasthra, where protests from a regional political party, disrupted talks of a bilateral series in October 2015. They open their campaign with a game against a Qualifier in Kolkata. Following the game against India, they play games against New Zealand and Australia in Mohali. Should they qualify to the semi finals, they will be play in New Delhi irrespective of where they finish in the group stages.

The Himachal Pradesh Government have already asked BCCI either to cancel the proposed match or to shift the venue. The president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Community Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that Kangra is home to a large number of soldiers, including Kargil War heroes like captain Vikram Batra and captain Saurabh Kalia and a war memorial is located close to the Dharamsala stadium. According to him, hosting Pakistan at Dharamsala would heart the sentiments of the families of the martyrs.
Local agitation against the match
Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh ex-servicemen league has been quite vocal about their protest against the match and they have written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to call off the game and they also warned that over one lakh ex-servicemen would launch an agitation to prevent the Pakistani team from entering Dharamsala.
President of the league Vijay Singh Mankotia asked,“When the Indo-Pak talkscan be cancelled after the terror attack (Pathankot), why not the cricket match.”
The fate of the match
So it is quite obvious that sentiments flowing around Dharamsala are not looking ideal and issues other than cricket are gaining an upper hand over the game itself. There is none denying the fact that whatever happened at Pathankot was shambolic and painful.
But there is no point in involving cricket into all of these. People from both the nations love to see their countries battling it out on the playground, not on the war fronts. It will be interesting to see what happens to the fate of this much-anticipated clash.

Pakistan’s one of the popular captains Misbah-Ul-Haq believes that national team will do better in the upcoming ICC World T20 championship in India and also he is expecting Pakistan to reach in the final of ongoing Asia Cup 2016. In his recent blog at cricket.com.au, Misbah wrote that bowlers did well during the first match of Asia Cup against strong Indian batting line-up and would do in future as well.
“Although Pakistan lost the opening match against India in the Asia Cup, they shouldn’t lose hope. That their bowlers made 83 look difficult against a strong batting team like India, is something that will encourage them in the next games,” Misbah said.

In the match against arch rivals, Pakistan batting line-up completely collapsed which really hurt the team most. Men in Green lost 6 wickets on the score of 42 and just managed to put 83 runs on the scorecard. But bowlers did brilliant job especially Mohammad Amir who took 3 wickets in the first 3 overs of the Indian innings.

Misbah said, “After this bowling performance I think the pressure on our batsmen will be less. The batsmen need to understand that the pitches in the Asia Cup are different from the Pakistan Super League and even if they score 130 or 140 their bowlers can defend it. I still feel that Pakistan can make the final of the Asia Cup, and will do well in the World Twenty20 as well.”
Pakistan’s test team skipper has also said that Asian teams have been playing well, especially he enforced on Indian team. He has mentioned that India is having good batting line-up and spin bowlers are doing great for Men in Blue. ICC World T20 2016 hosts India will be very strong in their home conditions and the support crowd will give them.
“All the Asian teams appear to be in good shape in the WT20, especially India, because they can give a tough time to any team in the subcontinent. They have a brilliant batting line-up and spin-bowling attack, and that’s why I feel they are the team we need to look to. But then it is T20 cricket and any team can upset any other on the given day. You can’t predict much in this format and that is not simply a diplomatic statement.”

“The team Pakistan has selected for the Asia Cup and World T20 has in-form players and I feel it has become even better after a few late changes. The players will enter these tournaments on the back of the PSL experience which will surely help them. You will soon see the PSL’s positive effects,” Misbah added.
