Update IRCTC Hacked: Now IRCTC denies

IRCTC-the ticket-booking website of Indian Railways was hacked. Personal data of around 1 crore customers is feared to have been stolen from the server of the e-ticketing porta. An IRCTC official confirmed this development to India Today Television over phone.

According to sources, details of around 1 crore individuals have been hacked. IRCTC officials also fear that personal details including phone numbers, date of birth and other such details of its customers have been sold in a CD for Rs 15,000 for whosoever was interested.

The state government has reportedly identified the hackers who were selling these details. They have informed IRCTC and Railway Board about the issue.

Meanwhile, the Railway Board is looking into the matter and will take required action.

IRCTC is India's largest e-commerce website, lakhs of transactions are conducted every day. Customers provide details like Pan Card numbers while filling up online reservation forms.

A man who used to hack train ticket booking website IRCTC to generate fake tickets was arrested from Dakshan Darwaza area in eastern Uttar Pradesh's Basti town on Thursday by a joint team of the Central Bureau of Investigation and railway's vigilance department, police said.

Hamid was arrested by a team of officials from CBI's Bengaluru branch and the Central Railway, which camped in Basti for three days, following an information that he had created a software to sell tickets by hacking the IRCTC website, police officer Rohit Mishra said.

Hamid had tied up with a number of people engaged in the fake ticket racket all over the country and used to book railway tickets using the software, Mishra said, adding that 10 laptops, 16 ATM cards, two PAN cards and Rs 50 lakh in cash were recovered from him.

He was taken on transit remand by the CBI and the Central Railway vigilance team for further questioning, the police officer added

"There has been no hacking as such, we've checked our data for the last one month and beyond that. As for the report as far as data theft is concerned, a committee has been formed and they are enquiring into the matter," said IRCTC PRO Sandip Dutta, in response to a news report which said that personal data of one crore (10 million) IRCTC users is likely to have been stolen.

"Right now we are not even in possession of that data which the cyber cell is talking about. Unless we are in possession of that data, we are not in a position to let you know if the data belongs to IRCTC or not," Datta said. "We're waiting for that data to be given to us, so that we can establish whether that data belongs to IRCTC or someone else, and if it's been sold in the name of IRCTC."
