Monday 21 July is a big day for Indian soccer. The excitement associated with the Indian Premier League player selection process by the various team owners annually is all set to hit Indian football, as the first player draft for the Star India and IMG-Reliance promoted Hero MotoCorp Indian Super League (ISL) gets underway. Up for grabs will be domestic footballers and the various teams will be putting up their bids to acquire them until Wednesday.
While the draft will be done along the lines of Major League Soccer of US, two franchises - Videocon Group owned Goa team and Bollywood actor John Abraham’s Guwahati team - will not be participating in it. Reason: the two have already selected their players from their respective I-League teams namely Dempo, Salgoancars and Shillong Lajong.
According to a PTI report, a total of 92 players will be available to the franchises at the draft. The list includes 32 players from the I-League clubs (on loan) and the rest are players who have been directly signed for the central pool by IMG-Reliance. Among those are players like internationals Gourmangi Singh and Nirmal Chetri.
Sources expect close Rs 25 crore to be spent during the three day player draft. The I-League clubs which have released their players to take part in the first edition of the tournament are Kolkata's glamour outfits East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, Mumbai FC, United SC and Rangdajied United FC.

The Hero ISL 2014 Indian Super League event will kick start from 19-9-2014 (19 September) to November 2014, with 8 teams Atletico de Kolkata, Team Bengaluru, Team Goa, North East United (Assam), Kerala Blasters, Team Mumbai , Team Pune, Delhi Dynamos.
Indian Super League is formed by AFC All India Football Federation, IMG and Reliance Industries and sponsored by Hero Motocorp and the footbal matches will be shown Live by Official tv partners Star Sports channel.

Atletico de Kolkata on Tuesday signed seven Indian players on day one of the two-day inaugural eight-team Hero Indian Super League domestic players draft held here.
Atletico de Kolkata signed up Arnab Mondal, Mohammed Rafi, Mohammed Rafique, Rakesh Masih, Cavin Lobo, Biswajit Saha and Denzil Franco.
The club is looking forward to the day-two of the draft to hand-pick the rest of its domestic players. A total of 42 players were up for grabs and will see 42 more tomorrow to choose from.
Atletico de Kolkata have already roped in its marquee player Luis Garcia, signed on Borja Fernandes, employed Antonio Lopez Habas as its head coach and appointed Jose Ramirez Barreto as the assistant coach of the team. The international players` draft scheduled next month will feature 49 players.
Atletico de Kolkata is the first franchise to be launched among the eight city franchisees of the Indian Super League.
Mr. Utsav Parekh, Co-owner, Atletico de Kolkata, Chairman, SMIFS Capital Markets Ltd said,
"Our team is in the safe-hands of our Head Coach and Assistant Coach. I am sure that these gentlemen ably supported by their experience and keen understanding of the sport and its specific requirements, will make the correct decision. At the end of day one of the draft, we are happy to have selected players aligned to our strategy of creating a great team."
The eight cities and/or states which were selected to host teams are Bangalore, Delhi, Goa, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Guwahati. The bids were to end on 25 March 2014.But will now end at 5pm IST on 27th March 2014. IMG have said that merely spending huge sum of money in bidding is not going to win a club for the bidder, rather the bidding party should have plans to operate international standard grassroots football program in their club based region. IMG have laid out strict guidelines for the bidding parties to follow in order to win a bid for a franchise team.
The reserve price for each city is Rs 12 crore per year for 10 years.
Rs 2 crore must be spent in the first year on developing football at the grassroots level.
On 13th April 2014, winners of bidding process were announced. Eight of the nine cities and their franchise owners were declared in the announcement. Chennai is the city which has been kept away from being included as a franchise in the Indian Super League. The winners and their franchise teams are mentioned below:
