MapMyIndia has released a Windows Phone version of its popular India centric maps application. Admittedly with Windows Phone 8, users of the Microsoft OS will have access to Nokia Maps; nonetheless it is a nice alternative especially for Indians as MapMyIndia boasts of the most exhaustive map data in India.
The current Windows Phone 7.5 devices only have access to Bing Maps, apart from the Nokia Lumia smartphones which have Nokia Maps, so it is definitely amongst one of the must have mapping solutions in the Windows Phone ecosystem.
Unlike the Sygic and Don’t Panic MapMyIndia apps for iOS, the Windows Phone MapMyIndia app does not store map data locally, so it is dependent on the user having an Internet connection on his phone. Additionally, the app does not support the location-sharing feature for Facebook like its Android version.
The app flaunts features like door-to-door landmark based driving directions and local search. The app is currently available for free on the Windows Phone store. MapMyIndia says that the Windows Phone version of the app is currently in Beta, however the app does offer the search nearby feature that allows users to locate nearby points of interest.
