The new chipset series includes MT7697, which will help Internet of Things (IoT) merge in the home; the MT8581, a multimedia system-on-chip with high integration for Ultra High Definition (4K) Blu-ray players; and the MT2523 for active and fitness smart watches.
The MT7697 powers Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections for smart gadgets and wearables and is expected to be in the market by the first half of 2016.
The SoC built with Cortex M4 CPU, when paired with MediaTek’s extensive smartphone chipset portfolio is designed to support the elevated connected homes and lifestyles, and also claims increased flexibility in both Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE (short range) and WiFi (wide ranger) connectivity with the highest integration among comparable SoCs, combining and optimizing DB WiFi, BLE, CM4 and RAM, and creating a mesh of connected smartphones, wearables and appliances.
Offering 2.4GHz and 5GHz support, a dual-band WiFi version of the chipset, MT7697D, has also been announced.
“The MT7697 expands opportunities for developers to build connected home software and innovative devices with support from our pre-existing series of leading SoCs, and software and hardware development kits,” said JC Hsu, Corporate Vice President and General Manager heading IoT business unit of MediaTek.
The world’s first Ultra-HD 4K Blu-ray player SoC with high dynamic range (HDR), is what the company claims about MT8581. Supporting Blu-ray, DVD and CD playback and BD-ROM formats like BD-Live and BonusView, users can both upscale to 4K from DVD and downsize to a non-4K screen with this SoC.
The System-in-Package (SiP), MT2523 series designed for smartwatches and other wearable devices is to provide GPS, dual-mode Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and a MIPI-supported high-resolution mobile screen, the company let out. The highly integrated SiP inculcates a MCU, dual-mode Bluetooth, GPS and a power management unit.
The SiP also boasts 41% smaller printed circuit board area than the competitors’ solutions and ability to retain to battery charge of powered devices for more than a week.
MediaTek’s MT2523 SiP will be available to device makers starting the first half of 2016, reveals the Taiwanese chip designer.
