I have in SBM. These chaps strike because they are the most lazy people around on earth. On the other hand SBI has so much business that they are short of staff all the time. When the load will be shifted to them, they will cry their ass off.
Moreover when the merger happens, the branch growth will come to a halt for next few years because we will have too much redundancy. So now they will be able to focus on quality and customer satisfaction. Right now their main motive is to open new branch and expand the footprint.

By the way SBI associates bank dont want this merger bcoz they r in more profit then SBI... thats why every month strike is happening in support of associates bank.
no bro, mine earlier post was just not limited to sbi associate banks.
i was talking all smaller psu nationalized banks as govt. said that all 26 nationalized banks will come under 6 banks only, so for that perspective i said that smaller banks have more NPAs then bigger banks and if these smaller banks merge with these 6 PSU banks then it will definitely be a failed concept.

So why is SBI going for merger then
bcoz SBI wants to decrease their operating costs, last year + this year they have closed above 400 branches all over india bcoz they want to decrease their operating costs so that theur profit will rise.

regarding ur question y they wanna merge (SBI) -

1) bcoz of the paid up capital that will increase,
2) SBI will become n will come in top 50 Banks of the world which is the biggest achievement for any bank in India.
3) shareholders will be happy that associate banks have lower operating cost so SBI profit will be higher.
4) govt. of India wants that all banks shuld merge themselves and must only be 6 nationalized banks in india
5) credit rating agencies will upgrade its ratings
6) sbi's operating cost will become lower sigificantly
