The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has awarded registrations to 553 multi-system operators (MSOs) out of the 1,158 applications it has received so far, Minister of State in the MIB Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told the Lok Sabha. This means that 605 MSO applications are pending with the MIB. In fact, the slow processing of MSO licences had prompted the MIB to go back to the provisional route of licence granting. As reported earlier by TelevisionPost.com, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been slow in giving security clearance, which is a key criterion for granting registration. The 553 MSO registrations that have been granted include 230 permanent and 323 provisional registrations. Rathore also said that the MIB has cancelled 27 MSO registrations.
