Vodafone India Ltd, the country’s second largest telcom operator, will launch its 4G (fourth-generation) services in Mumbai by December.
The company said it has already initiated testing of the 4G services and has partnered with global technology infrastructure service providers to roll out the services.
“We are excited to launch our new 4G services in the superior 1800 MHz band for our customers in Mumbai. Having launched 4G services in several countries, Vodafone has the requisite expertise and experience to ensure that its 4G service in Mumbai will be best in class,” said Ishmeet Singh, business head (Mumbai), Vodafone India.
Other telecom firms have also been in gearing up to launch 4G services in India. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (R-Jio), the telecom unit of billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) plans to introduce 4G services by December. It currently has licenses of 800 MHz in 10 circles,1800 MHz in 14 circles and 2300 MHz in all 22 circles across India.
While Bharti Airtel Ltd has already made its pan-India launch of the 4G services in August this year, Aditya Birla Group’s Idea Cellular has also announced its plan to offer the services soon.
