Industries and Tourism Minister R V Deshpande said that Air India’s decision to connect Benglauru and Mysuru will boost tourism and economic activities in the region. “After a great deal of effort, Air India officials agreed to operate to Mysuru from Thursday,” the minister told reporters here on Wednesday.
He said that the Air India, in response to the state government’s appeal to resume services to Mysuru, had an apprehension that it may not be economically viable.
However, the national carrier agreed after the state government committed to make up for the financial loss, if any.
“The Tourism Department has committed to pay Rs 1 crore annually to Air India to meet its operational costs by operating the flight,” he said.
Air India had recently decided to connect the state capital with Mysuru after private carrier SpiceJet discontinued service in 2014.
