After a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones by employees on the premises of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) and English daily DNA, Essel Group has now banned mobiles in Zee News and Zee Business Delhi office starting 1 August. Earlier, Subhash Chandra-promoted Zee Group had banned mobile phones in ZEEL offices starting 1 April. The HR reasoned that during meetings employees got distracted by their mobile phones and that their ‘productivity and attention span’ were reduced. Later, from 16 July, the same policy was implemented for employees of the English news daily DNA. The mobile ban has now been extended to Zee Media Corporation Ltd’s (ZMCL) head office in Delhi, covering staff of Hindi news channel Zee News and business channel Zee Business.
