The wealth of unlimited voice plans from India’s top phone companies is likely to bring the curtains down on popular dual-SIM usage and also impact overall mobile subscriber additions over FY18-19, analysts and industry experts said.
Brokerage CLSA, for instance, expects subscribers to increasingly “disconnect dual SIMs and consolidate their voice spends on to a single connection” as the profusion of unlimited voice plans gain adoption in the coming months.
The Big 3 of Indian telecom — Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular — have recently introduced free voice plans bundled with 3G/4G data to hold on to midand high ARPU customers after Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm extended its free voice and data services offer till end-March.
