The programmes of Raj Television Network are now available on the Internet. Exploring opportunities to generate newer revenue streams, the company has signed a pact with Google Inc to feature its content on YouTube. Following this, the channel is currently uploading its archives on YouTube. It will also produce some exclusive content for the Internet. “Our Sindhu Bhairavi (soap) is a great hit on this platform now,” says M. Raajhendhran, Managing Director, Raj Television.
This arrangement has opened up a new revenue stream for the company. Last month, it earned $4,000 from this platform. “In the next few years, we hope to take this to at least $1,00,000 a month,” he said.
According to him, every clip will carry advertisements (one at the beginning and another every seventh minute), and the revenue thus earned will be shared equally between YouTube and Raj TV. Besides, there will be a share of revenue per view too.
The company has teamed up with Yupp TV to stream its content live on internet. According to the pact, the channel’s content is currently available across the world live on YuppTV Web site. This arrangement will fetch another $12,000 a month to Raj TV, said Raajhendhran.
In addition, the company is in the process of building a similar product like YouTube, on its own, to stream all its content.
Raj Television for the first quarter ended June 30, 2012, has posted a net profit of Rs 3.21 crore on a turnover of Rs 16.27 crore. At the current market price of Rs 236.90 per share on BSE, the company’s market capitalisation works out to Rs 307.46 crore.
