Reliance's Infotel Broadband has shortlisted telecom vendors Infinera Corp, Ciena Communications and Alcatel-Lucent for buying Rs 2,250-crore ($500 million) worth of optical network transmission gear, two people aware of the development told ET.

Infotel, which has permission to roll out fourth-generation telecom services throughout the country, will invest in transmission gear based on dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) technology to beef up bandwidth capacity of its high-speed wireless broadband networks.

The purchase will be in addition to the long-term evolution (LTE) technology-based radio network equipment that Infotel is buying from Samsung Electronics FOR OPERATIONS in Mumbai and Delhi.

Executives familiar with the matter said the transmission gear vendor will be responsible for handling system design, supply, installation, commissioning and integration of DWDM equipment. The company, however, is yet to decide on how many vendors will supply the equipment.

Reliance Industries did not reply to ET's emailed query on the development. Calls and text messages to the company's spokesperson, too, did not elicit any response.
